Honest or Dishonest??

Hearing news about Filipino taxi drivers surrendering their passengers’ belongings gives me a certain joy. It only proves that Filipino’s are honest people. Imagine how taxi drivers work for long hours to get a living and yet they are not tempted to take something that doesn’t belong to them.

There’s also this instance that involved my cousin. He was at Robinsons Galleria one afternoon and decided to go to the restroom. There, he found a purse containing Php100+k and some Yens’ too. He checked the inside of the purse and saw a calling card. The purse actually belongs to a Japanese National. Knowing the identity of the owner he went to the security office and checked if someone’s looking for a lost purse. The security officer then told him that no ones looking for it. At that time he could have just gone home and take the purse with him (my cousin was unemployed at that moment and was on the process of job hunting) but what he did was he contacted the person on the calling card and informed him that he got his purse. The owner got his purse and money back and told my cousin that he’ll be giving him a reward, cash worth 10k (which he didn’t get/receive.) After that incident my cousin received a call from a bank and was told that he got the position he applied for. See, there’s good karma in every good deed you do.

So here’s the thing, my mom lost her phone last week, while riding an fx/van on their way home. She is certain that she is not a victim of pick pocketing. She was putting her phone back to her bag after texting my brother, unaware she was actually unable to shoot the phone into her bag that slide somewhere in the van. Upon knowing the situation I tried calling her number hoping to get an answer but the phone’s turned off already. My mom even went to the terminal to check if someone surrendered her phone but to no success. My mom had a blackberry bold 9700 which has a name tag feature. She had it updated with her name, address and landline number. We were hoping that someone would calls us and inform us that he got my mom’s phone, but that never happen. I sent a text message as well but got no response. My mom was so devastated, she really liked that phone. 3 days ago, I sent her PIN a message thru BBM. I received an update yesterday morning that I am no longer on her contact list and so I sent a request to be added back on the list. The moron accepted my request and even updated my mom’s BBM account. He changed the display name (he used Jrbaun which, he then changed to pochie) and added his picture (my mom actually failed to upload hers when she still has the phone.) It turned out to be the driver of the van they were riding that night. I know it is his prerogative to either surrender or keep the phone. Anyway he didn’t stole it. He just found it lying on his van’s floor. But knowing the identity of the owner, would you still keep something that doesn’t really belong to you?

This is Jrbaun or Pochie… the man that got my mom’s phone. BBM PIN is 2307A74E

Prior to that incident, it has been a topic of my family’s conversation. We all think that if you found something valuable, may it be a bag, wallet, cellphone etc.. if it has the owner’s identity, you have to give it back. But if the item doesn’t have any info that will lead you to the owner, then it’s your lucky day and can keep it or donate it somewhere.

Now I wonder, are Filipino’s really honest or do we have to be really that lucky to find one? Let’s just put it this way, That driver could be a rotten tomato mixed with a good bunch of tomatoes. Sad but true..

‘As soon as you look at the world through an ideology you are finished. No reality fits an ideology. Life is beyond that. That is why people are always searching for a meaning to life… Meaning is only found when you go beyond meaning. Life only makes sense when you perceive it as mystery and it makes no sense to the conceptualizing mind.’

‘It is a great mystery that though the human heart longs for Truth, in which alone it finds liberation and delight, the first reaction of human beings to Truth is one of hostility and fear!

‘There is only one cause of unhappiness: the false beliefs you have in your head, beliefs so widespread, so commonly held, that it never occurs to you to question them.’

‘As you identify less and less with the “me”, you will be more at ease with everybody and with everything. Do you know why? Because you are no longer afraid of being hurt or not liked. You no longer desire to impress anyone. Can you imagine the relief when you don’t have to impress anybody anymore? Oh, what a relief. Happiness at last!’

‘Wisdom tends to grow in proportion to one’s awareness of one’s ignorance.’

‘Suffering points out that there is falsehood somewhere. Suffering occurs when you clash with reality. When your illusions clash with reality when your falsehoods clash with the truth, then you have suffering. Otherwise there is no suffering’

‘People who want a cure, provided they can have it without pain, are like those who favor progress, provided they can have it without change.’

love, love!!

Every heart sings a song, incomplete, until another heart whispers back. Those who wish to sing always find a song. At the touch of a lover, everyone becomes a poet.

My Second Dish! :)

I had my first taste on this pasta recipe from my brother which is a more expert in the kitchen than I am. Actually, I’m no expert when it comes to that part of the house. I am more of an eater than a cook. I won’t call it fear cause I still go to the kitchen and do some cooking or should I say frying.

One boring afternoon, hungry, my brother explored our kitchen and came up with this pasta dish. It’s simple yet so delicious especially when paired with red wine. I find it so yummy that I want to learn how to do it on my own. I kept on asking him for the recipe which he gave right away but it took me months to gather the courage and finally do it.

I went to the supermarket to buy the stuffs I need before heading to my cousin’s house. At first I was hesitant, fearing they may not like what I’m going to prepare for them. Now at cousin Manel’s house, not wanting them to know what I’m up to, I hid all the ingredients at the cabinet. Then another cousin came, Avy. I told her of my plan and she was very supportive of it. I called my brother for the last time to see if I have everything covered. Time to cook!!!

After a few minutes, this is what I came up with..

Taking a photo of my 2nd successful dish was Avy’s idea. It was a success. :)

I can now cook 2 different dish. First is the “chili prawn.” Thanks to a very good friend; Faith Entierro for sharing the recipe. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to take a photo of that dish.. I will, soon.

Now I am more motivated to explore the kitchen and cook some more. I want to try this thing like from the movie Julie and Julia starring Amy Adams and Meryl Streep.

Bon Appétit!! :)

A day before Caress’ post birthday celebration, a cancelled date and an afternoon packed of boredom I decided to check on my stash and see if i still have my skills on make-up application. it looks nice but not the look I was trying to achieve… so I switched to item #6 which is my current favorite.

here’s the look i’ll score on caress’ party

Thursday came. Decided on my look and my ensemble, I was on a party mode then 4pm on the day of the party I got a call from a company that I was applying for. I was scheduled for an exam early Friday morning. Party starts at 10, my friends are scheduled to arrive at 11. I have to be up 430 am Friday morning since I live in what other people call “The Province of Novaliches” where “everyday is a National Traffic Day!”

In short, I was not able to make it to the party.

I was worried that caress would un-friend me, like what she mentioned, but i just checked on my friend-list and she’s still there! yey, happy me!
promise, i’ll pay up next time!
